Our Town
By: Thornton WIlder
Directed by Markus Potter
Rehearsals Begin: 3/21/22
Tech and Performances: 4/12-5/7/22

About:
A story about stars, about the eternal.  About birth and death.  About being born, growing up, and dying.

A rumination about how we find meaning and value in our lives.  A distillation of life into its absolute basics, told within the brilliant meta-theatrical structure of storytelling that examines life's significant milestones.  A story about he United States of America.  The UNITED States of America.

Quick notes on the approach from the director:

We have all experienced such tremendous loss in the last two years. Our Town is deeply in conversation with our fragile world, asking each of us to question what gives us value in this world. This production invites you to bring who you are and your own life experiences to the story, allowing each of us to project our own experiences of our world onto the play. We strongly encourage BIPOC, trans/gender-nonconforming & differently-abled performers to audition. This production is not a throwback to small-town America, rather an examination of our core values. While the play doesn't explicitly engage with some of the great challenges of our time, it asks us to examine one of the most critical questions of our time: the meaning of life. For the audition, please choose from one of the suggested sided below, or simply read any short section of the play. Monologues are also ok for the first round of auditions. For callbacks, we will be using the list of sides noted below. Please avoid any folksy sentimentality or artifice. No need to add any affectation or accent. Yes, enjoy the comedy and quirkiness of many of these characters, but keep it grounded, truthful, and use your current unique sound and identity and bring YOUR truth to the table. Finally, as there are no mics/no amplification of sound, feel free to fill the space vocally!
