This fall, spontaneity, laughter, and connection take center stage at the second annual Diablo Improv Festival (DIF), a three-day celebration of unscripted theater at the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek.

Whether you're a seasoned improviser, a comedy fan, or simply improv curious, DIF is an opportunity to see great live improv, try it for yourself, and become part of a welcoming creative community. No experience is necessary. Just a willingness to play!

About this Workshop

Improv offers an opportunity to practice a range of skills and mindsets—including empathy, awareness, presence, resilience, flexibility, and creative problem-solving—that are at least as valuable off-stage as on. In this practical and playful session, using Kat's book "Training to Imagine" as a foundational text, we will explore: How the tenets and activities of performance improv apply to work and life, tips for choosing and designing activities to align with specific goals and contexts, and facilitation best-practices from set-up to debrief,

Experience Level

Improvisers with some experience who want to strengthen their facilitation and teaching skills in non-performatory settings; facilitators and trainers who wish to incorporate improv techniques effectively.

About the Instructor

Kat Koppett is the Eponymous Founder of Koppett, an applied improv consultancy, and the co-director of The Mopco Improv Theatre. She has designed and delivered programs for Apple, Prezi, Meta, PwC, the U.N. NASA and many others, She is a founding member of the Applied Improvisation Network and the author of "Training to Imagine", considered a seminal work in the applied improv field. She has performed with Synergy Theatre and is an alumna of BATS Improv and Freestyle Repertory Theatre.
