About Observations of a Still Life: Observations of a Still Life explores the enduring relevance of the still life. Throughout its long history, the still life has remained a fascination for both artists and arts appreciators, its resonance reflecting the times. In present-day culture, we’re constantly bombarded with information to the point of overload. The artists in this exhibition deftly navigate our chaotic environment, transforming everyday items into objects of curiosity and, at times, obsession. Often utilizing art historical references to embody the more traditional aspects, contemporary still life artists infuse the picture plane with elements of surprise and cultural reference that warrant reflection and contemplation.
